The piece
The pendant is a sculpted double-headed axe — known in Greek as the labrys — finished in 18k gold over sterling silver. Symmetrical, deliberately weighty in the hand, reads as one continuous piece of metal.
22-inch chain. The axe hangs cleanly at sternum height. The kind of pendant that draws a question across a table.
Why it’s named that
The labrys was a ceremonial double axe used in religious rituals on Crete during the Minoan period — over 3,500 years ago. The same form appears in Greek mythology, in heraldic tradition, and on the Greek flag’s military banner today. Few symbols are older.
Care
Avoid lotion, perfume, and salt water on the gold finish. Polish with a soft cloth only.
